The step-by-step guide to keeping your engine performing at its best
Many motorcyclists tend to overlook air filter cleaning, even though it’s a crucial component for keeping the engine healthy and high-performing. Without an efficient filter, dust, dirt, and debris can enter the engine, leading to premature wear, power loss, and increased fuel consumption. That’s why regular maintenance is essential, especially if you’re using a DNA air filter, which is designed to deliver high performance only when treated with the right products.
Below, we show you how to do it using our Cleaning Kit, developed in collaboration with DNA, in 4 simple steps.
Step 1: Remove the filter and shake off coarse dust
Start by carefully removing the air filter from your motorcycle to avoid damaging it. Once removed, gently tap it to release the larger dust particles. Avoid using aggressive methods like compressed air or stiff brushes, as they can damage the filtering fibers.
Step 2: Apply the DNA cleaner and let it work
Spray the cleaner included in the kit generously over the entire surface of the filter, making sure to cover both sides. This specific product is designed to dissolve dirt and grease without damaging the filter fibers. Let the cleaner sit for about 10–20 minutes, making sure it doesn’t dry out in the sun or in hot environments.
Step 3: Rinse with warm water from the inside out
After the cleaner has done its job, rinse the filter with warm water, always directing the flow from the inside to the outside. This prevents dirt from being pushed deeper into the filter structure. Rinse gently and continue until the water runs clear, indicating that all dirt has been removed. Finally, let the filter air dry naturally, avoiding direct heat sources.
Step 4: Apply the DNA oil and reinstall the filter
Once the filter is completely dry, evenly apply the specific DNA oil over the entire filtering surface.
This oil has the right viscosity to trap dust and particles without obstructing airflow. After waiting about twenty minutes to allow the oil to absorb properly, you can reinstall the filter on your engine, making sure it is securely fastened and sealed.
How often should you clean your air filter?
It depends on the type of use: those who ride mostly in the city can wait up to 10000–12000 km, while riders tackling dirt roads or dusty environments should clean it much more frequently, even every 5000–7000 km.
Why is it so important to use specific products like our Cleaning Kit?
It’s simple: only cleaners and oils specifically designed for high-performance air filters ensure effective cleaning without damaging the filter fibers, thus preserving the filter’s efficiency and longevity.
Our kit is engineered to guarantee the filter a lifespan as long as your motorcycle’s, maintaining consistently high performance. Using non-dedicated products risks compromising the filter’s structure, reducing efficiency and putting your engine at risk. Relying on professional kits means protecting the heart of your bike, keeping the engine efficient and reliable over time.
